I recently adopted a bearded dragon from a friend. He couldn’t take it with him where he was moving. While I know the typical diet of a bearded dragon, I am not sure if they can eat eggs. Someone told me they can and my friend who gave him to me said they are toxic.
You can't do raw eggs. Boiled eggs are fine as well as scrambled eggs but don't use any oil or butter when cooking them. It is best to only give them one egg a week at most, and this is for a small free-range chicken egg. Larger ones, you will want to half the amount. It is easier to just stick to hard boiled so you know the amount they are eating.
Never do raw eggs, they won't digest well and can make them very sick. I think hardboiled are the safest and easiest myself. Most people just use small chicken eggs.
Yeah eggs are okay. I only do this once a month. I give my dragon a whole eggs with his meal. I like to do this just to fill in any nutrition gaps without having to worry about boiling them all the time since I don't really eat them myself. My mother always eats them so I just run to her house and get one of hers each month. She has a chicken coop with some chickens.
Raw eggs are a big no-no just like with cats. I learned this when I was house sitting for a friend's dragon. I know a lot dragons tend to love egg so you have to be careful not to overfeed them.
I never liked the idea of feeding them eggs because they normally would not be eating chicken eggs in the wild. I think it is best to just avoid them all together.
A friend of mine used to give his dragon raw eggs. This was because the guy at the pet shop told him it was okay. He ended up getting some kind of liver disease and dying. So yeah, never feed them raw!
Since it was not mentioned, I will bring it up. You NEVER want to give an egg to your dragon with the shell on. They can cut their mouth or throat open. If you decide to give them eggs, stick with room temp hard boiled eggs and peel the shell before giving it to them. I would only do half an egg every other day at most.
I always give some boiled egg to my dragons when I have some. They eat them like pigs.
I'm not sure if it's actually healthy or not though.
Raw egg is a no. Not ever.
If you want to give them egg, make sure it's hard boiled or scrambled. Be careful though, too much protein is dangerous.
